NCAA president Mark Emmert spoke at a Tallahassee civic organization luncheon yesterday reiterating his support for a two-round, four-team BCS championship playoff system. After Alabama blanketed LSU 21-0 in the BCS championship game, it only added more fuel to the playoff fire. Football players get a bump in pay

The NCAA approved an initiative that allows athletic conferences the option of giving full scholarship athletes a $2,000 annual stipend to help defray the high cost of college. The notion behind the move is to line the pockets of players who are in financial need and cannot obtain a part-time job due to the commitment involved when playing college sports. To be bowl eligible, you have to win at least 6 games during the regular season. In prior seasons, even if you won the requisite amount, a team may still not receive a bowl bid. As the NCAA prepares for the 2010 kick-off, this rule of thumb can be tossed out the window.
