With the NFL lockout in full swing, players are finding creative ways to keep busy during the downtime. This past weekend, former Irish QB Jimmy Clausen certainly did not waste his time as he earned his bachelor’s degree graduating this past Sunday at Notre Dame Stadium.
In December 2009, Clausen declared that he would forgo his senior year and head for the riches of the NFL. He never earned enough credit to receive his degree, much to his mother’s dismay. But with the lockout in place, Clausen had the opportunity to fulfill a promise to his mother by enrolling at ND for the spring semester to finish what he started back in 2007. Clausen finally completed the necessary requirements to matriculate with his entering class. Upon receiving his diploma on Sunday, Clausen tweeted to the world: “Great day at ND graduating with the Class of 2011. Truly blessed.”
In the meantime, QB Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers #1 draft pick, has been working out extensively and is preparing to demote Clausen and assume the top spot in Carolina. For Clausen, who only threw three TDs in ten games last season, to remain under center he will have to quickly celebrate his college graduation and focus on the task at hand.
