Failure!

The SEC completely dominated the bowl spectrum yesterday with the dismantling of the Big 10. There is always constant banter about who has the best conference in college football, and the SEC put an exclamation point on their quality wins. The two teams that completely failed the Big 10 hail from the state of Michigan.

The biggest shocker, to some, was the complete thrashing of Michigan State. Alabama destroyed a Michigan State team that pled to be in a BCS game. The Tide out-gained Sparty 546-271 in total yards and completely dominated the ground game in a 49-7 beat down. In fact, the announcers in the game were joking about ‘Bama taking a knee with 9 minutes left just to keep the score in check. Michigan State will have a long off-season as they come to terms with this horrific shellacking.

Mississippi State made Michigan look like the adopted red-head that no one wanted in the family. It is safe to say that Rich Rodriguez’ service will no longer be needed in Ann Arbor after being embarrassed 52-14. After a close 1st quarter, Michigan just gave up and gave the game, along with their pride, away.

The SEC completed the Big 10 debacle with Urban Meyer retiring on a positive note beating Joe Paterno and the Nittany Lions 37-24. This game was actually a back-and-forth match-up with two evenly matched teams as the final score does not really reflect how well of a bowl game both teams played.  So it wasn’t that bad.

The knock here is on the state of Michigan, both of these programs cannot hold their heads up high as they were just completely embarrassed on New Year’s Day. It is time for both programs to regroup and look ahead.
