Dantonio has a lot of heart, returns to coaching

After suffering a mild heart attack less than two weeks ago, MSU's Mark Dantonio returns to coaching as the Spartans open up conference play this Saturday.

Michigan State’s Mark Dantonio must really want to beat the #11 Wisconsin Badgers this Saturday. After being hospitalized following a mild heart attack on September 19th, the head coach doesn’t want to miss a beat despite better judgment. He is expected to be coaching the team from the press box as the undefeated Spartans (4-0) open Big Ten conference play this Saturday.

Dantonio, 54, stated, “I’m going to ease back into this much like anybody would after any injury.” Call me crazy, but coaching from the press box this soon after suffering from a heart attack, probably isn’t the best idea. Dantonio suffered a heart attack shortly after the Spartans successfully ran a fake field goal in OT to beat rival Notre Dame. The stress of coaching will only get worse during conference play. Perhaps OC Don Treadwell should continue to be acting coach while Dantonio does a little more R&R.

Though Mark Dantonio is not expected to be coaching from the sidelines this Saturday, he will be calling all the shots. It’s apparent Dantonio is a fighter and he is willing to set his health aside to focusing on winning, something the Spartans have not done in a while.
