Michigan State Spartans TE Dion Sims is staring down the barrel of felony burglary charges for his involvement of a crime ring that netted over $158,000.00 from the sale of stolen laptop computers. According to Wayne County prosecutors, the Detroit native is accused of receiving and concealing stolen property, a felony that is punishable up to 10 years.
Sims, 19, and at least 9 other individuals (not football players) allegedly stole over 104 laptop computers and then sold them on sites such as eBay and Craigslist. The laptops, which have been showing up from as far away as Saudi Arabia to Gainesville, Florida, primarily were stolen from several Detroit Public Schools. Unfortunately for Sims, the stolen computers were all equipped with internal tracking devices and were fairly easy to track and locate.
Since this investigation began last year, Sims has been keeping the coaches and AD up-to-date, but after official charges were filed, the school had no choice but to suspend the 6’5 285 Big Ten All-Freshman TE.
It looks like the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
