Missouri’s third scrimmage of the season proved to be one too many. Yesterday, senior cornerback Munir Prince, the fastest man on the team, was critically injured during a punt return drill. Practice came to a halt after Prince suffered a crushing blow knocking him out. He was removed from the field via stretcher. His early diagnosis was transient quadriplegia–a temporary loss of sensation and movement in the upper body. As of now, Coach Gary Pinkel says Prince is on track for a full recovery. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Prince and his family.
The second major blow to the Tigers was the loss of starting tailback Derrick Washington. Washington has been suspended indefinitely for his off-the-field activities. He is accused of sexually assaulting a 20ish year old who happened to be his tutor at the time. His status on the team remains in doubt until his legal troubles are resolved. Washington was entering the season as the #1 tailback with two strong back-ups in De’Vion Moore and Kendial Lawrence.
These are two big losses for a team that returns 15 starters and is vying for the Big 12 title. Missouri opens the season September 4th against rival Illinois.
