Coach Dan Hawkins’ heard continues to disappoint the University of Colorado. The latest outcast is senior DT Joe Silipo who was nabbed by CU police after being spotted tampering with a lock and stealing a bike from an on-campus rental rack. Around 2:30 a.m. yesterday morning, Silipo approached a bike rental rack, jarred a bike free, then peddled down Broadway. Unfortunately, the authorities were watching Silipo in the act. When he was confronted, he stated that the bike wasn’t his. CU police ticketed Silipo on suspicion of two counts of theft of less than $500 and one count of criminal mischief.
As a result of Silipo’s criminal behavior, Hawkins suspended the senior from all summer activities to include running and lifting with the team and participating in 7-on-7 drills. This is a meaningless suspension as Silipo was a walk-on transfer from Northern Colorado who probably wouldn’t have seen much of the field anyway. As for Hawkins, this season is his last opportunity to shine and his lack of player control is an indication that he might already be a lame duck coach.
