Some sad news is coming out of the Auburn camp. One of Gene Chizik’s top recruits, OL Shon Coleman, is battling a serious medical issue. The 6’7 285 pound Coleman, the top player in the state of Mississippi, was diagnosed with  acute lymphoblastic leukemia.  He is currently undergoing treatment at St. Jude’s Medical Research Center in Memphis, Tennessee.

At this point, there is no status on his playing days as his focus right now is on defeating this cancer. Fortunately, Coleman is a fighter with a strong will and this form of cancer has a high cure rate.

His mother posted on her Facebook page:

“Shon is getting out today around noon. His latest blood test showed zero cancer in his blood. We won’t know about the bone marrow for several weeks. He’s taking his chemotherapy treatment like a champ. God is good!!!!”

Our best wishes go out to Coleman as he fights this terrible disease.
