So long, Farewell, Auf Wiedersehen

So long to Hofstra football

Game over

The economic climate has taken another soul–The Hofstra Pride. After 69 years of gridiron play, the President, Stuart Rabinowitz, said on dropping the program, the choice was clear citing the high cost of running the program, the team’s inability to generate interest, and the lack of financial support and attendance.

The Pride may have produced NFLers such as the Saints Marques Colston and the Steelers Willie Colon, but the team could not generate enough pride with its students and alums. I guess football Saturdays wont be the same for the 12,400 students trapped in Hempstead, New York come next season.
