Aaron and DJ Hernandez during happier times.

In a case of mistaken identity, Iowa football tight ends coach DJ Hernandez was the subject of a restaurant brawl in a West Harford, Conn., diner around 3 a.m. this past Saturday. DJ Hernandez, brother of disgraced former NFL star Aaron Hernandez who is facing a murder charge, was dining at the Gold Roc Diner when a patron shouted to DJ, “Hey, Aaron Hernandez!” thinking it was actually Aaron. At that point, another customer who was with DJ chimed in saying “no it’s his brother.”

A verbal battle ensued and then all of a sudden punches were thrown between the diners. A women was punched in the head and some of the men involved suffered minor cuts to the face. Somehow DJ avoided the fight and was not involved in the altercation.

Three men, Alberto Lopez, Jesus Agosto and Thomas Miller were all arrested and charged with third-degree assault, breach of the peace, and third-degree criminal mischief.

DJ Hernandez is a former UConn Husky playing from 2004-2008. He is currently the tights ends coach at Iowa under Kirk Ferentz.
