Be Cautious When Purchasing Picks

If you don’t know the name William Walters you are not a true sports gambler.  Walters is arguably the most revered gambler in the business who makes frighteningly accurate bets raking in hundreds of thousands of dollars at a time.  Well the world’s top sports gambler is making another bet that will surely land him a significant financial gain.

Earlier this week, Walters sued Cooper’s Picks, LLC and its owners/operators for unlawfully using his name and image to lure gamblers to purchase picks for football, basketball, hockey and horse racing.  The Cooper’s Pick website claimed that all picks are directly associated with Walters and his unparalleled handicapping success.  All the while, Walters had never been affiliated in any manner with Cooper’s Picks.  Unbeknownst to Walters, Cooper’s Picks was making thousands of dollars selling package deals, individual picks, and premium plays to the tune of $20,000/month per user for a football syndicate membership.

As such, Cooper’s Picks was using Walters’ names and reputation to draw more and more registrants and users for garnering business.  Unfortunately, Cooper’s Picks were wrong more often than right.  Registrants became more and more irate as they lost significant amounts of money from what they thought was Walters’ advice.  As a result, Walters has been receiving threatening phone calls and multiple death threats.

Walters hired the heavy hitting law firm of Greenberg Traurig to stake his claim.  He filed a 22-page complaint against Cooper’s Picks in the US District Court of Nevada  (2:12-cv-1541) seeking damages for false designation of origin, violation of public rights, deceptive trade practice, civil conspiracy, unjust enrichment and conversion.
