Three Key Games To Check Out In Week One Of College Football

The college football season officially kicks off this week, and that means a full slate of games on Saturday. To help kick off the season, here is a look at three games to watch. These games are selected for the noon, afternoon and night time slots on the East Coast, meaning fans can catch all three of these games in their entirety.

Ohio @ Penn State (noon EDT, ESPN)

Everyone knows what Penn State football has been through in the past few months, but the program finally gets back on the field with a new coach and a lot of new players. They should still have a decent squad this season, but everyone still wonders just how the game will go. Their opponent, Ohio, is by no means a typical Week 1 pushover either. In fact, if they can get by Penn State, some are predicting they could be possible BCS busters. This game will not only be interesting to watch how the crowd reacts and how the new system at Penn State works, but it should be a flat out close game.

Bowling Green @ Florida (3:30 PM, ESPN)

This game, unlike the other two, is not really expected to be too close. However, Florida is rolling out a ton of impressive freshman for the first time as they look to get back to the top of the SEC. Big things are expected of Will Muschamp as the Gator hopeful are wanting to see him take that next step as a quarterback. Bowling Green is a decent team that has played these types of opponents well on the road in the past, but this game is more intriguing to see just how good Florida is going to be in 2012.

Michigan @ Alabama (8 PM EDT, ABC)

ABC and College Football is starting off with a bang this season, and the prime time showcase game figures to be an exciting one. Michigan, led by Heisman hopeful Denard Robinson, will be looking to make a huge statement by going into Cowbows Stadium and stealing a victory from Alabama. The SEC has looked down at the Big Ten the past few seasons, but a win could change that. It’s a bit premature to say the winner of this game puts themselves in the driver’s seat for a BCS Championship Game appearance, but the entire college football world will be tuned in to see this BCS Bowl-caliber matchup in Week 1.
