ND athletic director challenges students to cheer louder

Watching a college football game at Notre Dame Stadium is a must for any college football fan. The stadium is rich in tradition and filled with pageantry. From the Irish Guard to the fans dancing an Irish jig when the band plays “Rakes of Mallow,” Notre Dame Stadium is more of an experience than anything else. However, the 80,795 fans are not necessarily the loudest in the country and ND athletic director Jack Swarbrick wants that to change—specifically in...

10 Modern Corruptors of College Sports

The utterance of the term “student-athlete” induces a chuckle from those who are familiar with what really drives the highest levels of college athletics — money. With so much at stake for the universities beyond just the publicity that comes with having a winning football or basketball program, the gatekeepers have conveniently snoozed on the corruption that has blatantly occurred over the last few decades. Some of the most notable manipulators of the system from the last 20 years...

Jerry Jones taps into the rich resources of USC

Jerry Jones just officially launched an offshoot of his Cowboys Merchandising Ltd. company called Silver Star Merchandising. The goal of Silver Star is to lure top college athletic programs with the hopes of banking off of the program’s success with the sale of logo branded apparel. Mitch Mustain can’t catch a break

USC back-up QB Mitch Mustain cannot get confirmation from the team that he will start this week when the Fighting Irish travel to tinseltown for a classic college football rivalry. Starting QB Matt Barkley, who suffered a high ankle sprain in the first half of USC’s embarrassing loss to Oregon State last week, is listed as the starter despite being on crutches and in street clothes all this week. Even if Barkley does not practice this week, coach Kiffin...

USC’s Matt Barkley injured, Mustain takes reins

As easy as it was to be a Trojan fan during the Reggie Bush days, the true loyalists are being put to the test. Last night, USC got trounced by Oregon State 36-7. To make matters work, the Trojans’ beloved starter QB Matt Barkley injured his left ankle on the final offensive play of the first half for the Trojans. He was helped off the field, but eventually was carted to the locker room and was deemed finished for...

ND’s fate rests with true freshman QB Tommy Rees

Now, the 18 year-old freshman is set to make his grand starting debut for the most storied football program in the nation. Rees, a true freshman who left high school early to enroll at Notre Dame, will be the starting QB as the Irish and 81,000 fans take on #14 Utah this Saturday afternoon. With Dayne Crist...

USC Removes Reggie Bush Jersey

The Trojans are doing everything possible to disassociate the program from their latest Heisman trophy winner who was primarily responsible for SC’s current sanctions. If you were at the Coliseum last night watching SC squeak past UVA, you would have seen that the #5 Bush jersey was removed from the peristyle steps prior to Lane Kiffin’s home opener. This was just the latest action by the school and AD to rid any memories of the great tailback. SC doesn’t...

Breaking News: Bush to return Heisman

Rumors are swirling that the Heisman Trophy Trust will strip Reggie Bush of the 2005 Heisman Trophy by the end of September. If this happens, Bush will be the first player ever to have the award taken away. The Trust has just concluded a three year investigation that led them to believe that the NCAA was correct in finding that Bush and USC were both in major violation of several NCAA rules. It is reported the Trust will not...
