South Carolinais heading into Saturday’s match-up against Kentucky without star TE Weslye Saunders. Saunders injured his ankle in last week’s beat-down of South Carolina State. The 6’5 TE aggravated the ankle which has given him troubles before in the past. In his absence, SC will be forced to start Justice Cunningham. Cunningham has seen action in all of South Carolina’s games this season so they will have some experience to turn to while Saunders recovers.

South Carolina’s 16-10 win over Ole Miss comes with a small price tag. Unfortunately, the Gamecocks’ DT Travian Robertson will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL in his right knee. Robertson suffered this season ending injury during the 3rd quarter of Thursday’s game. Ole Miss DE Greg Hardy will not suit up this Saturday for the Rebels’s second game of the season against Southeastern Louisiana. Hardy sprained his ankle on September 6th during Ole Miss’s game against Memphis and it is still giving him trouble.  Rebel head coach Houston Nutt announced on Monday,  “I’d say Greg is very doubtful for this game,” Nutt said. “His ankle is still swollen. It looks as if Nick Saban has finally decided on a permanent place to lay his roots. Saban signed a contract extension that will keep him in Tuscaloosa until 2017.“Coach Saban has impressively led the Alabama football program back to national prominence in a short period of time,” Moore said on the school’s Web site Saturday. “This contract extension is a clear statement of our mutual commitment to building on the foundation he has established.”

Ole Miss is back at it again. Top recruit and signee Darius “Tig” Barksdale (6’0, 190 lbs.) was arrested for DUI and driving without a license yesterday morning (August 6th) in Batesville, Mississippi. He was initially pulled over when the Batesville police were searching for a stolen vehicle. Mississippi State’s WR Brandon McRae’s (Sr. 6’4, 205 lbs.) 2008 season ended abruptly in the second quarter as he had to be carted off the field in the Egg Bowl against Ole Miss with a broken leg. The Bulldogs were crushed 0-45.
