Heyward enjoys the college life, he will be back next season

At least 53 underclassmen are rolling the dice for a shot at the NFL. Some notable names include ND’s Jimmy Clausen , Penn State’s Navarro Bowman, and Oklahoma State’s Dez Bryant. These players are just a few of those electing to forego their senior year of college for the riches and fame of the NFL. However, not all underclassmen are ready for the fame and fortune of the next level. One of the top defensive ends in the country...

Montana returns to South Bend

The son of a legend returns to Notre Dame (again). Joe Montana convinced his son to return to the Irish as there is a great opportunity for Nate Montana to take some snaps under center. With the early departure of Jimmy Clausen and the knee injury to Dayne Crist, Brian Kelly is looking for a strong arm to run his offense. With no real prospects in sight, the job is wide open to anyone. In the first go-around, Montana saw very...

Irish in desperate need of a QB

Now that Brian Kelly has settled in South Bend and learned his way around the Guglielmino Athletics Complex, he has a major offensive issue to sort out. With the early departure of QB Jimmy Clausen and an ACL tear to the heir apparent Dayne Crist, Kelly does not have a QB with any collegiate experience. Unfortunately, the depth chart is not deep because Weis did not sign any top QB prospects in 2009. As of now, Kelly has only...

A black eye in South Bend

At this point, details are still sketchy but word is coming out of South Bend that our golden boy Jimmy Clausen was in an altercation outside C.J.’s Pub late Saturday night after the double overtime loss to UConn. Sources are saying that the heralded QB took a punch to the face which left a black eye. The school has yet to reveal any other details of the incident, but The Matador will be following through and providing updates.

TE Rudolph out for the regular season

It’s not getting any easier for Notre Dame as TE Kyle Rudolph is reported to be out for the Irish’s final three games as a result of suffering a shoulder injury during the loss to Navy. This is a big hit for the offense because of Rudolph’s pass protection ability and his great hands. He is Clausen’s go-to guy and it shows as Rudolph is the second leading receiver on the team with 33 receptions and 3 TDs. The Irish are...

Irish get lucky, Floyd cleared to play

There is good news and bad news to report out of South Bend, Indiana. For the good news, Irish fans will be getting a treat this Saturday as star WR Michael Floyd is making his long awaited return as he has been cleared to play against Navy this weekend. After breaking his collar bone 6 weeks ago against Michigan State, Floyd had successful surgery, went through rehab, and is now ready to make some big plays for the Irish. Prior to Floyd’s injury,...

#6 USC (-10.0) 34 #25 NOTRE DAME 20 Over/Under Total: 49.5 12:30 PM Pacific Time Saturday, Oct-17 Notre Dame actually has a good team this year because their offense is so good, but that attack will have to win the battle against USC’s great defense if they’re going to stay close in this game, as I don’t see the Trojans having any trouble moving the ball and scoring against a worse than average Irish defense. Notre Dame has allowed 6.0 yards per play...

The Golden Boy is a gimp?

Notre Dame’s victory over the Spartans (33-30) may prove to be more costly than originally thought. As The Matador reported earlier, Michael Floyd will miss the remainder of the season with a broken collar bone. Now there is question as to the extent of Jimmy Clausen’s toe injury. During the second quarter of Saturday’s game, Clausen took a bad sack and landed awkwardly on his right foot. Throughout the remainder of the game, he walked with a limp but was...
