Nittany Lion mascot dismissed after breaking another team rule
There are many true freshman making an impact on the gridiron for the Nittany Lions. However, one former true freshman is no longer welcomed on the Beaver Stadium sidelines. Nittany Lion mascot and gymnast Clint Gyory, the first true freshman to win the rights to be the Nittany Lion mascot, has been permanently relieved of his mascot duties and stripped from his scholarship.
Gyroy’s issues first became public when he was issued citations in August 2010 for underage drinking, public drunkenness, and criminal mischief. The University suspended Gyory for the month of September. Now AD Jeff Nelson is confirming that cheerleading coach Curtis White fired mascot Clint Gyory because he broke another team rule. The school would not release any other statements except that there will be open tryouts for the Nittany Lion mascot position. Although fill-in Max Levi, who replaced Gyory during his suspension, seems to have the edge over any potential Lions.
A message to applicants, please note there is a direct correlation between being the mascot and drinking. If you don’t recall, in 2009, the PSU mascot was suspended prior to the Rose Bowl after a DUI charge. No one is saying you cant drink, just be responsible.
In somewhat related news, Gyory is a former Parkland High mascot most remembered as “Trojan Man.”
