Urban Meyer bans Twitter

Within hours of officially taking over the reins at Ohio State, head coach Urban Meyer instituted a Twitter ban on all players. Meyer does not want his players posting comments, regardless of how innocuous they may be, on the popular social media micro-blogging site. With Ohio State already facing a bowl ban for the 2012 season thanks to former head coach Jim Tressel, Meyer wants to ensure players do not draw any more unnecessary attention to the program. If...

Penn State football family shows support of JoePa

Yesterday, 382 former and current Penn State football players showed their support by publishing a letter standing behind Joe Paterno and Penn State. The following is a copy of the letter: As members of the Penn State Community, we are deeply saddened by the allegations against Jerry Sandusky, and our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families. Given the allegations against Sandusky, we understand the public’s outrage because we share it. At the same time, however,...

Penn State president set to paralyze football program

In the wake of the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal, newly appointed Penn State President Rodney Erickson has avowed to the Nittany Lion nation that he will place less emphasis on football. He wants to portray Penn State as a “world class research institution” rather than Linebacker-U. One of Erickson’s first initiatives to reach this goal is to establish a national Center for the Protection of Children that will be housed at Hershey Medical Center Children’s Hospital and...

Triponey is Penn State’s latest whistleblower

For all you naysayers and whistleblowers who want to continuously chastise Joe Paterno, please take into consideration that mainstream media is often misguided and misrepresented. The latest addition is coming from former vice president of student affairs Vickey Triponey who is saying that Joe Paterno treated football players more favorably than the university did with other students. Triponey isn’t actually stating anything new or groundbreaking. It’s safe to say that the majority of big time programs treat football...

A true sign of class from Penn State and Nebraska

After an emotionally charged week, there were skeptics that believed Penn State should cancel today’s game and perhaps cancel the remainder of the season citing among other things, safety. However, interim president Rod Erickson was going to have no part of that. The university did take precautions by adding extra security, but at the end of the day, Penn State and Nebraska are both teams rich in tradition and pride that wanted to play the game. Prior to kick-off,...

Tom Bradley takes the reins at Penn State

With Joe Paterno’s abrupt firing, the board of trustees appointed defensive coordinator Tom Bradley as interim head coach for the Nittany Lions effective immediately. Bradley’s routes are embedded in Pennsylvania as he was both a graduate of Penn State and played defensive back for Paterno in the late 1970’s. Ever since he graduated, he remained by Paterno’s side. He was a graduate assistant (1979), then promoted to assistant (1980-1999), then in 2000 was named the defensive coordinator to replace...

10 protest against Penn State, 1,500 students rally in support

David Baran, a Penn State graduate, is so disgusted with his alma mater that he staged a rally on Tuesday on the steps of Old Main to protest the Jerry Sandusky scandal and to showcase his distaste about the way Penn State handled the sex abuse charges. Baran pulled out his diploma, then a lighter, and set his degree ablaze for everyone to see. The one problem, only 10 supporters showed up to his protest. Meanwhile, over 1,500 students...

Joe Paterno reaches 408th win, ties the late Eddie Robinson for total career victories

Joe Paterno reached a historical milestone this evening by defeating Northwestern for his 408th career win tying the late legendary Grambling coach Eddie Robinson for total career victories. Penn State’s 34-24 win was in true Joe Paterno fashion who drew up a well balanced attack on offense and a suffocating run-stopping defense. The offense amassed 389 total yards with 192 yards in the air and 197 yards on the ground. Meanwhile, the defense stopped the Northwestern’s ground game holding both...
